July 2013 promises an Arts Festival with a difference; four arts festivals, to be precise!  Spanning the North of England, Python Arts Festival will take place in Warrington, Bolton and Teesside from Saturday 20th July until Saturday 3rd August.

During this fortnight-long celebration, a diverse range of artworks will be on display accompanied by an exciting programme of interactive events, offering new creative opportunities for artists and visitors alike.  One of the main strands of the festival will be the Open Exhibition with individual cash prizes awarded to winners from each venue.  In addition to these prizes there is the unique and exciting opportunity for the winners to showcase their work in a touring exhibition across all four galleries in 2014.

We invite you to create new work or submit existing artwork completed within the last 3 years and will accept painting, photography, sculpture and 3D, drawing, print and textile work.  Download the application form here

Tracy Hill: Terrains Opening Night

Tracy Hill: Terrains Opening Night

First up to launch the New Year will be:

Tracy Hill: Terrains opening 17th January 6-8pm. All welcome!

Tracy Hill’s current research investigates how we travel and chart the land around us.

These investigations always begin with the map; she is particularly interested in examining how much information is left off our maps. The main basis for the research is the exploration into the gaps between destinations, to look at maps and to find spaces that give the viewer the ability to wander off the path, to choose a new direction and chart our own discoveries.

Hill’s research examines how the conventional processes of printmaking and the new developing acrylic and digital technologies can be combined to produce innovative ways to challenge the definitions of print.  The process of printing in her research work responds directly to the nature of the layering and of building surfaces and resonates with the years of history and palimpsest within our landscape.
