‘Freaks, Guides and Visitations’
features paintings by Mary Lou Springstead from 2011-2015. The work explores the themes of curiosities, nonconformity, supernatural influence and emigration. Mary Lou Springstead is a visual artist with a background in fine art and art therapy.
She moved to Middlesbrough from Florida in 2010. Her paintings are expressive and surreal, combining personal and collective symbolism with vivid imagery and colour.
The show promises to be intriguing and beguiling with imagery which is both rooted in the reality of the Teesside area but which also inhabits a fantastical and dream like realm.
